Just a little sin

Posted on

Sin is a pest, the moment you allow it, it overwhelms you.

It was during the summer, I was desperately looking for a job, Grrm! The phone rang.

Caller: Hello, I’m calling from Maya solutions. May I speak to Jennifer

Jennifer: Speaking

Caller: We got your resume and would love to schedule you for an interview on Tuesday at 9 am. Is that OK with you?

Jennifer: Sounds good to me. See you on Tuesday

With so much excitement, I ran to my wardrobe and began to sort out the perfect business casual for that interview. I spent the rest of the day watching YouTube interview videos and compiling an interview folder.

The next day was Tuesday, I got there an hour early. This was the job I wanted out of all the jobs I applied for; good pay, benefits and 7 minutes’ walk from my home.
I knew God was going to do it for me; I had prayed, fasted. Honestly, i was so confident and ready

The interview started at 9 am, the interviewer was so friendly and easygoing. I answered all the questions and did all the exercises perfectly. He acknowledged that he loved my presentation.

Still smiling, he asked me “when was the last time you worked at your previous job?”
“Last week” I replied.

He paused for a few seconds, “Jennifer, Allen your boss told me you are a very hardworking lady and that you quit six months ago because you were going through personal challenges. Which is okay; In life, we face different challenges. I wanted to hear how you overcame yours before I hire you.
You see, Allen and I are buddies and when I saw your resume, I gave him a call. I’m sorry I cannot hire you,
Honesty is the best policy.”

I was broken; not because I lost a job opportunity but because I had sinned against God while decorated in prayers.
Ashamed was an understatement ; I am meant to be an example to others. I wanted to disappear and appear in my bed at home.
As I took the longest 7 minutes’ walk back home, without minding passersby, I kept screaming,

All sins are abomination unto God

What you consider to be a little sin can be very damaging. Sin destroys in seconds. Jennifer was qualified for that job, but a lie of two words cost her a perfect job.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:1-2 KJV

Once we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and saviour our sins are no more with us. It’s washed away by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross of Calvary. We are given grace not to continue in sin but to serve God. The spirit of God begins to dwell in us and we are expected to live a life free of sin guided by holiness, righteousness and godliness.

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 JOHN 3:9 KJV

Most people sin deliberately because grace is free. They use phrases like “grace is covering me.” This is dangerous because the spirit of God cannot dwell in such person. If you are in such category, amend your ways and ask God for mercy. The bible says that such people will be subdued to destruction. “For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26-27)

What is sin?

All unrighteousness is sin (I John 5:17). Sin is anything that goes against the command of God. Whenever we are disobedient to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, we commit sin.
1 Corinthians 6:17-18 lists different forms of unrighteousness. These sins include; unbelief, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, idolatry, swearing, gossip, lying , disobedience, anger, drunkenness, witchcraft, jealousy, envy, etc.

Who is a sinner?

A sinner is the person who indulges in unrighteousness or is disobedient to the commands of our Lord. A sinner is not a christian and a christian is not a sinner; God is holy and all who worship or serve him must do it in holiness.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God

Romans 3:23 KJV

We have all sinned against God; All we need to do is ask for mercy and surrender or rededicate our life to Jesus. He is the only one that can release us from sin. “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1John 1:10.

A sinner who indulges in unrighteousness and disobeys Gods commands. People who practice unrighteousness will end up in hellfire. Ask God for mercy, so that he will forgive you.

Also, an atheist or self-righteous person is a sinner and will not make heaven. You must be born again to make Heaven.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:3-6 KJV)

Its very important to realize that you can choose to exercise power over sin by accepting Jesus Christ. He gives the power to subdue and eradicate sin. When you become born-again, life becomes great; filled with peace, mercy, joy, hope, salvation.
Beloved, we need God’s help; We cannot do it on our own. Accept Jesus Christ, confess your sins to Him and be free. Who is next in line for confession, Jesus is waiting.

If you want to receive Jesus as your Lord and personal savior, say this prayer.

Heavenly Father, I confess and repent of known and unknown sins today (confess your sins). Jesus Christ, I surrender my life to you. Come into my life and be my Lord and personal savior. Thank you for your mercy. I ask that you teach me, guide my paths and preserve me for heaven at last. In Jesus name. Thank you, Jesus!

Congratulations! Now that you’re saved, please find a bible believing church to continue this process and maintain your salvation.

There is a second part to this post. God willing, next week Saturday, we will study the effects of sin, how to avoid sin and repentance.
In the meantime, I encourage you to give your life to Christ, ask Him to help you overcome sin.

God bless you!
