When we receive Christ, there is a desire within us to serve Him. The passion for God creates a fire inside of us. Greater fire equals greater power to do God’s work and defeat the enemy. God gives fire and helps us to maintain it if we are willing to make an effort.
Parable of the wise and foolish virgins
The book of Matthew chapter 25 tells the story of the wise and foolish virgins. The virgins in the parable represents the believers of today. The foolish ones had no oil reserve in their lamps so their fires were turned off. The wise virgins had oil reserves to maintain their fire. Their foolishness made them miss out on the marriage feast with the bridegroom.
Repentance is the act of confessing your sins and choosing to live right. It is the act of reconciling with God through Jesus Christ. Repentance is done by renouncing every known and unknown sin and making a sincere promise to forsake them. Most importantly, God loves genuine repentance. Isaiah 1:18-19 explains that God will go to any extent to forgive and redeem a sinner who is truly sorry. God will forgive all kinds of sin no matter how dark it is. So, repent and forsake sin!
Flee from sin
Sin is the only thing that separates us from God. Isaiah 60:2 tells us how sin makes us hide from God’s presence. To demonstrate, Adam and Eve hid from God after they had sinned against him. (Genesis 3:8)
Sin has the power to make one cold. Few examples of sin include; lying, stealing, drunkenness, fornication, evil thoughts, etc. To keep your fire burning, flee from any form of sin. Live right!
Engage in Spiritual Activities
To keep a fire, fuel is needed. Likewise, to maintain your God-given fire, you need to engage in exercises like prayer, worship, fasting, etc. These activities are ways of staying connected to God. When you are connected to the God, you will never lack fire.
Meditate on the word
The word of God is like a fire and hammer, it breaks the rock in pieces. (Jeremiah 23:29). Meditate and practice the word of God (bible). Attend a church where the undiluted word of God is preached.
Fellowshipping with believers who are on fire for God will increase and help maintain your fire. God is present and more delightful when two or more brethren are gathered. When Peter was in prison, the prayer of the church helped rescue him.
In conclusion, do whatever it takes to keep your fire burning. Accept Jesus, pray, join a bible believing church, join a prayer school, start a bible plan, make godly friends, etc. Be like the wise virgins, store oils. Never let your fire die. Jesus is coming soon. Stay woke in his presence.
